Dixcart Bay Hotel - Sark

Dixcart is Sark's oldest Hotel. Once a 16th century feudal farm longhouse, the property includes an extensive 40 acreage of medieval hand terraced gardens, a cliff path through the densely wooded Dixcart Valley and the sheltered Bay of Dixcart. Family owned and managed, Dixcart is recommended by the AA and RAC and has won Les Routiers' Gold Key Award for 3 consecutive years. The historic Bay of Dixcart, is on the hotel's own land (approximately 40 acres), and within 5 minutes descent from its gardens. Safe for swimming, it also provides a sheltered anchorage for visiting yachtsmen of every nationality.

Since its early existence, the hotel has hosted various royals, writers, artists and poets - especially Victor Hugo, (who stayed several times between 1851 and 1859, when the hotel was run by the Hazelhurst and Vaudin families). Other famous guests include Swinburne and Mervyn Peake, the author of 'Mr. Pye' ( filmed in our grounds). Latterly, the Welsh tenor, Harry Secombe and violinist, Nigel Kennedy ! All have been entranced by Sark's unique stillness, serenity and gentle hospitality.

"Sark is a dream island, the most romantic beautiful, exciting and curious of any in British waters … an unspoilt island of deep winding valleys, flamboyant cliffs and bays …a paradise of flowers in the spring".
